Land Surveying

Field surveys conducted at Holmes and McGrath utilize Leica SET-3 Total Stations with SDR Data Collectors. This is a system that uses the latest technology for on-the-ground instrument surveys, for the purpose of gathering data (traverse or topography) or staking out and recording measurements.

The field system transfers data directly to the office system utilizing the SDR. The SDR is a small field computer allowing the field crews unparalleled information collection and productivity. The SDR interfaces with the computers to prepare plots of the surveys.

The acquisition of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) stations utilizing AutoCAD, the recognized industry standard in CAD applications, has allowed us to make a quantum leap forward in the speed and efficiency of in-house design and drafting.

AutoCAD's dominance of the PC-CAD market has made it possible for us to share drawing files with architects, landscape architects, and other design professionals. In addition, AutoCAD's "open architecture" allows other third-party software developers to use AutoCAD's power for specialized applications. We are currently using Land Decelopment Desktop along with Civil Design and Survey, giving us tremendous flexibility in customizing our graphic output to suit the needs of each of our clients.
